What Will You Choose When A Very Appetizing Opportunity Comes?

April 1st, 2012

Let’s say you’ve studied the menu. You’ve narrowed your dinner choice down to two options. The first option is Gear 22 Chicken Tinga Tostados, fresh grilled shredded chicken, leafy crunchy cabbage, fresh crema (not really a cheese but a dairy staple in Mexican cuisine.), sliced red radish, pica de gallo and queso. Your second option is Puerco En Chile De Arbol, ridiculously, blissfully good, hearty and filling, spicy in the right way, that good feeling kind of way, These simmered pork chopped chunks in a spicy chile de arbor sauce rock. Which way do you go? Only one thing you know for sure–Tonight We Ride.

Like Mad Scientists On A Mission To The New World Taco Order, Cinco Training Camp Is Rockin’ In The Kitchen

March 24th, 2012

One quick glimpse, of the several mole sauces that hail from Oaxaca (“woe-ha-kah”), manchamanteles (“tablecloth stainer”) may be one ready for prime time. With spicy guajillo chile, pineapple, cinnamon and clove, it’s made for some great “red mole” when used with enchiladas. It packs a serious flavor punch that adventuresome JBS diners seem to be screaming for these days. Don’t be surprised if you find others like this on the new spring menu set to debut around Cinco 2012. One last thought, if you get asked, think huarache (pronounced “wah-rah-chey”). These crispy corn masa planks, about ½-in. thick and shaped like the sole of a shoe (hence its name—huarache is a type of Mexican sandal), with a ridge formed around it to contain its ingredients. They’re not unlike a pizza in some ways. Crazy good progress is being made. They might make the Surf or Taco Menu for 2012.

Blue Road Trip Discovery Paints An Image Of All World Time Out Next Time You’re In Austin, Texas

January 13th, 2012

Call a time out on your own life. We found ourselves riding shotgun in Austin recently always on the look for something unexpected. Yard Dog Art Gallery at 1510 S Congress Ave in Austin, Texas (512) 912-1613 hit it out of the park. A couple hours break from reality as we looked at art that told stories and brought smiles in a style all and each its own. So, we felt obligated to tell the Blue community if they find themselves in Austin, make sure they check your eyeballs in here. While the gallery’s roots are in old-school folk and outsider art from North America, especially the Deep South, it also shows art by many contemporary artists whose backgrounds run the gamut from self-taught to art school graduate. Very cool.
